It didn't mean what it might have meant.
There on the wood and the wool and cement.
If you had been there instead of him, well...
it didn't mean what it might have then.
It didn't mean what it might have meant.
When she returned from the continent,
and you smelled her long black hair.
I am far now and she is there.
I am wandering west
I have wandered east
my path has taken me
far too far from you feet.
Now you are sailing south,
and I am flying north,
I want to take you in my mouth
and let nature take its course.

The Great Storm
02:53
|

from a poem by Emily Dickinson:
Glee, oh glee; the great storm is over.
Four have recovered the land.
Forty gone down together
into the boiling sand.
Ring, oh ring, for the scant salvation
Toll for the bonnie souls
Neighbor, friend, and bridegroom
Spinning upon the shoals.
How they will tell of the shipwreck
When winter shakes the door
'Til the children ask, "But the forty?
Did they come back no more?"
Then a silence suffuses the story,
a softness the teller's eye.
And the children no further question,
and only the waves reply.
